Madge

Madge

Madge is a one-of-a-kind all felt 20” doll that I created for the “Made by Exhibitor” category in the Modern Doll competition at the 2009 UFDC National Convention in Atlanta. The requirement that the doll must be made entirely from felt, including clothes and shoes, was quite a challenge since I had not made a doll of felt before. She was awarded a Blue Ribbon and also received the President’s Choice award.

Girlfriends

Girlfriends

This one-of-a-kind tableau of three dolls was inspired by the colorful sandals (formerly Christmas tree ornaments). Each pair had a right and left foot so of course they became doll shoes! The bright, summer outfits were coordinated to match their sandals. “Girlfriends” was awarded Second Place in 3-D category at the Brazosport Art League’s 2008 Open Juried Show. They were also included in a Special Exhibit, “Expressions! The Artist’s Way,” at the 2008 UFDC Convention in Las Vegas.

Millie

Millie

"Millie" was awarded a Blue Ribbon in the Adult Fine Arts Exhibition at the 2006 Brazoria County Fair. My inspiration for this doll was Mildred Douglas Chrisman who, in the early 20th century, won the World Champion Girl Bronc Rider title twice and also acted in silent movies with Tom Mix. The 17" one-of-a-kind doll wears fringed suede leather culottes and vest, blue cotton shirt and leather boots with spurs. Her hair is mohair and she carries a white hat in her hand as she waves to the admiring crowd. Mildred was inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1988.

Pool Time

Pool Time

This ample, 16" one-of-a-kind doll was awarded 3rd Place in the 2006 Hoffman Fabric Challenge. This was a special thrill for me as it is the first time that my entry has received an award in the more than 10 years that I have entered. She wears a swim dress of the Challenge fabric, a coordinating robe, flowered swim hat and flip-flops. In her vinyl beach bag are a bottle of Perrier®, a towel, sun block, a portable CD player and several of her favorite CD’s. She carries a ring float on her other arm.
